ABSTRACT
Introduction: The surgical treatment of lacrimal obstruction by external dacryocystorhinostomy technique consists of the formation of a fistula between the lacrimal sac and nasal passage. Has long been considered the standard technique for obstruction of the lacrimal acquired or congenital etiology. Objective: To present the results of a series of cases submitted to Kasper technique external dacryocystorhinostomy. Methods: This is a retrospective study of a series of cases operated at the Hospital Regional da Asa Norte, from December 1999 to January 2008. Results: We describe ten cases with external da-cryocystorhinostomy technique performed, five women and five men. The age ranged from 8 to 56 years. The most common etiology was traumatic and the main clinical symptom was epiphora. 90% of patients had remission of clinical symptoms of lacrimal obstruction presented preoperatively. There was one case of adverse developments that were required reoperation. Conclusion: With this technique we obtained good results, especially in cases of an acquired defect, with the advantages of direct visualization and easier to create the wide ostium and lacrimal flap lacrimal sac.
