ABSTRACT
Introduction: Skin cancer is one of the most frequent pathologies in plastic surgery. The approach is complex, given that its staging and treatment guidelines are constantly being revised, and implying changes that have occurred lately. The objective of this work is to update the staging of the CEC (squamous cell carcinoma), and CBC (basal cell carcinoma), to the year 2018.
Method: This is a bibliographical, narrative, non-systematic review, based on searches of Pubmed, AJCC, NCCN and UICC.
Results: The main change in the AJCC 2018 is the addition of a TNM for head and neck ECC, and the elimination of another ECC chapter of topographies; this problem can be used for CBC. For palpebral neoplasms, changes occurred mainly in the N category.
Conclusions: Knowing the staging of skin cancer is essential for the management of patients in a coordinated and comprehensive way. In 2018, important concepts were incorporated, especially for head and neck carcinomas.
