ABSTRACT
Introduction: Basal cell carcinoma (CBC) is the most frequent tumor of the eyelid of cutaneous origin, characterized by slow growth, local invasion and low percentage of metastasis. In advanced stages with deep invasion, surgical oncological treatment may require orbital exenteration. The objective is to describe the diagnostic and therapeutic process in cases of CBC in which orbital exenteration was performed.
Method: We present two clinical cases of patients from the University Hospital, with locally advanced CBC, whose oncological surgical treatment required orbital exenteration.
Results: In both cases the diagnosis was CBC stage IV, indicating orbital excision. In one case, it was reconstructed with a temporary muscle flap and, in the other, a frontal dermal-fat flap was also performed.
Conclusions: CBC is the most frequent tumor in the eyelid, topography in which surgical treatment may require orbital exenteration in locally advanced cases.
