ABSTRACT

Introduction: Aging of the orbital region results from a combination of a dynamic process that involves bone resorption and soft tissue changes. Objective: Evaluate periorbital senile deformities.
Method: Digital photographs were analyzed using ImageJ software to compare elderly patients with young patients. The measurements of eyebrow curvature, height-width ratio of the palpebral cleft, eyelid-malar distance and relative position between the lateral and the medial corners of the eye were evaluated.
Results: Only the lateral corner of the eye presented a statistically significant decline in the older age group in relation to the younger.
Conclusions: In order to achieve the most natural and harmonious rejuvenation of the orbital region, senile deformities must be identified objectively and corrected according to the origin of each one.

RESUMO

Introdução: O envelhecimento da região orbitária resulta de uma combinação de um processo dinâmico que envolve reabsorção óssea e alterações de partes moles. Objetivo: Avaliar as deformidades senis periorbitárias.

Método: Foram analisadas fotografias digitais utilizando-se o software ImageJ para comparar pacientes com idade avançada com pacientes jovens. Avaliaram-se as medidas da curvatura da sobrancelha, relação altura-largura da fenda palpebral, distância pálpebro-malar e posição relativa entre os cantos lateral e medial do olho.

Resultados: Apenas o canto lateral do olho apresentou declínio estatisticamente significativo no grupo e idade mais avançada em relação aos jovens.

Conclusão: Com o intuito de alcançar o rejuvenescimento mais natural e harmonioso da região orbitária, as deformidades senis devem ser identificadas de forma objetiva e corrigidas de acordo com a origem de cada uma delas.
