ABSTRACT

The kite flap is a fasciocutaneous and neurovascular flap harvest from the dorsal portion of the second finger. Its irrigation originates from the first space dorsal metacarpic artery that is a radial artery branch and its innervation come from the superficial branches of the radial nerve. It is a very useful flap to cover soft tissues defects in the hand. The flap was described, in 1954, by the first time by Gaul and after by Lie and Posch, in 1971. In the present paper, the authors used the kite flap to treat patients and could verify the possibility to cover soft tissue defects in the thumb, very important component of hand function. This flap deliver to the soft tissue defect an innerved island of skin being a good option for reconstructive surgery.

RESUMO

O retalho "kite" é neurovascular fasciocutâneo da porção dorsal do segundo quirodáctilo, cuja irrigação é proveniente da artéria metacárpica dorsal do primeiro espaço, que é ramo da artéria radial, e se presta a cobrir defeitos de partes moles da mão. Sua inervação é proveniente de ramos superficiais oriundos do nervo radial. Foi descrito pela primeira vez por Gaul (1954) e, mais tarde, por Lie e Posch (1971). Os autores utilizaram o retalho "kite" em dois pacientes e verificaram a possibilidade de cobertura das áreas cruentas no polegar, segmento importante na função da mão. Este retalho leva à área receptora uma ilha de pele inervada e constitui mais uma boa técnica disponível na cirurgia reparadora desse segmento corporal.
