ABSTRACT

The authors present a functional and aesthetic evaluation of patients submitted to lip tumor surgery from June 1993 to June 1998 in the reconstructive and microsurgical plastic surgery service of the National Institute of Cancer - INCa-MS (RJ). Forty-eight patients submitted to resections of primary lip tumors who underwent immediate repair were retrospectively analysed. The characteristics of the tumors and the techniques used for resection and reconstruction of the resulting lip defects are detailed and indications according to the length of the lesion were detailed with the advantages of techniques that allow restoration of the mechanism of the oral sphincter being emphasized. Evaluations of the functional and aesthetic results of the reconstructions according to established criteria as assessed by the senior author were excellent/good in 81.2% and 85.4% respectively.

RESUMO

Os autores apresentam avaliação funcional e estética dos pacientes operados por tumores de lábio, no período de junho de 1993 a junho de 1998, no Serviço de Cirurgia Plástica Reconstrutora e Microcirurgia no Instituto Nacional de Câncer - INCa-MS (RJ). Foram analisados, retrospectivamente, 48 pacientes submetidos a ressecções de tumores labiais primários e reparação imediata. As características dos tumores e as técnicas empregadas para a ressecção e reconstrução dos defeitos labiais resultantes são detalhadas, ressaltando-se as indicações de acordo com a extensão da lesão e enfatizando-se a superioridade das técnicas que permitem a restauração do mecanismo esfincteriano oral. A avaliação dos resultados funcionais e estéticos das reconstruções, de acordo com os critérios estabelecidos, por meio da avaliação pelo autor senior, se mostrou ótima/boa em 81,2% e 85,4% dos pacientes, respectivamente.
