ABSTRACT

Introduction: Prominent ear has been treated with many different methods. The surgical correction of the conchoscaphal angle and of the distance between the antihelix rim and temporal scalp has been performed both by Brazilian and foreign surgeons. Methods: This paper describes our experience with the combination of different surgical techniques in the correction of prominent ears of 80 patients. The method includes the abrasion of the antihelix, so as to weaken it, and then its reshaping with perichondrioplasty. Concha was attached to the mastoid after removal of the posterior auricular muscle. Results: All patients were operated in the morning, with local anesthesia and sedation, and were discharged in the same day. The result shows a very natural look due to the weakening of the cartilage by abrasion, not breakage, and its reshaping with adequate sutures.

ABSTRACT

The objetive of this scientific research was to demonstrate the possibility of use of the orbicular muscle in cases that function and action of the elevator muscle of the eylid does not exist, using a bipedicular flap of the orbicular muscle in its superior portion in form of a "wing" fixated to the inferior aponeurosis of frontal muscle in the supraciliar region. This study was performed between the years 1992 and 2009.
